Selinsgrove, PA. - April 21, 2006 The rains had threatened Friday afternoon, but as the track gates were opened, the skies cleared up and gave Raceway Park a "window" of clear skies for a matter of hours. The program moved along very quickly with all warmup and qualifying sessions completed. But after half of the Go Kart Feature Events were completed, Mother Nature closed Raceway Park's window. Keeping an eye on the weather radar via the newly installed Internet system in the speedway tower, track officials could visibly see that the racing program was about to end. The rain became steady and the remainder of the Raceway Park program was cancelled. The classes of karts that did not complete their feature event will use their qualifying races as their main events for points.
A very good turnout of Karts and Micros were once again present in the pits despite the predicted bad weather for Friday evening. On to the racing. If there is an award for the "Toughest Racer of the night", it would have to go to Kevin Kratzer from Selinsgrove. In the Lites feature event, Kevin was running near the front in a pack of karts, when his kart drifted high coming out of turn four. The tires dug into the shoulder of the racing surface and flipped violently, throwing Kevin from the kart. Kevin was not injured and in fact, he rolled the kart back on all four wheels, re-started and joined the tail of the field, and proceeded to pass a few cars during the last few laps of the race. Although it was a bad wreck, we're glad to say that Kevin was OK.
