Selinsgrove Speedway Spotlight, #37, Scott Flammer
This week's edition of the Selinsgrove Speedway spotlight is on 32 year old 358 Sprint Car driver, Scott Flammer. Scott lives in West Milford, New Jersey, and makes the trip to central Pennsylvania each and every weekend for racing action. His number one concern each weekend, is making it to his favorite track of them all, Selinsgrove Speedway. Scott also runs whenever he can at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday evenings throughout the season. His schedule is open to any track and any race event over the course of the season, as long as it fits in the teams availability. Scott opened up the 2007 season at the Snyder County oval by finding his way to victory lane for his first trip there in his career. His consistent top ten finishes since then, have him sitting at the top of the 2007 Sprint Car Point standings. While Scott races for the love of the sport and the speed of it, he does'nt worry about the point standings and all the hooplah over numbers and stats.(Especially this early in the season). But, to this Jersey kid, a track championship at the historic Selinsgrove Speedway would be a huge accomplishment in the former professional modified, and motocross racer's career. 2006 was Scott's rookie year, and from the start of his very first laps on the big half mile, he had the eyes of the fans and the other drivers wide open. Many other drivers will take it easy and try to just get accustomed to any race track when it's their first time on it. But not Scott Flammer. He wheeled his #37 Sprint car at breathtaking speeds like an outlaw veteran on his first laps of the super fast Selinsgrove Speedway. Scott is a true speed demon with the talent to back it up. He has been racing competitively for almost ten years. His racing career got started by racing in the motocross ranks, before moving into the family owned, Flammer Motorsports #37 Small, and Big Block Modifieds. Five successful years in the modified ranks was enough experience for Scott to move into the well anticipated 358 Open wheeled Sprint Cars. Scott has now found his love in the 358 Sprint cars. As he was quoted saying," If I knew Sprint Car racing would be this much fun, I would have skipped right over those Modified days."
Until Scott earns that first track championship at his favorite track, his opening day victory at Selinsgrove, and his fast time that he set at the Super Dirt Weeks, in his motocross days are his two career highlights to date. Scott's low point definetly came last season, when he flipped his 358 Sprint car in a violent wreck at Williams Grove Speedway. Scott works for Flammer Heating and Cooling Incorporated during the work week, before heading east to race every weekend in the heart of the Sprint Car world, this side of the Mississippi. His Sprint Cars and equipment are all self owned by Scott and family. Those fast cars are all J&J Chassis while Don Ott serves as the motor builder. The crew of the #37 team consist of, Brett, Matt, Troy, Big Mike and Meliss. The H-Job man acts as Crew chief. While Flammer Motorsports is the main sponsor of the team, Penske Shocks, J&J Chassis, Don Ott Motors, and Behrents Speed Center all support Scott and team with sponsorship. Scott would like to add a special thanks to; Behrents Speed Center, Jack from J & J Chassis, Don Ott, The Butcher, and Gus from Salem Rv, for their help and support through his racing career. Raceway Park Spotlight, #49, Zach Fedorchick
Our Raceway Park spotlight this week is on 10 year old, 9-12 Rookie cage driver, Zach Fedorchick. "The Zach Attack", a 4th grade student at the Midd West School District, and driver of the #49 cart entry, is in his first full season as a rookie cart racer, and lives in nearby Middleburg. Last season, Zach got his feet wet at Raceway Park by competing in one race near the end of the season, to see what the Go Cart world of racing was all about. His evaluation of the competition at the Park was tough and solid, but it was something the youngster wanted to do full time in the upcoming 2007 race season. While his first win hasn't come yet, nor has he led a lap yet in a main event, he has broken into the top five in the overall point standings in the 9-12 Rookie cage division. One top five finish early in the season, and the consistency of finishing each and every race, piled with more and more seat time on a weekly basis, have given Zach the confidence he needs to give it all he has to run with the top competitors in that cart class. The 9-12 cage division is one of the most competitive divisions of them all at Raceway Park, as well as having the most competitors on a weekly basis. Twelve to fourteen carts are entered every week, making Zach's rookie year even tougher to bring home top five finishes. But Zach is determined to someday bring home a win for the Fedorchick Motorsports cart team, whether it be at Raceway Park, or nearby PennsCreek Raceway Park, which the team has also raced at earlier this year.
Zach's parents, Buffy and Tim, head the pit crew with assistance from his brother Brant, Brian Harro, and Cody Keller. Jimmer Power is behind the horsepower of the motors, while a Lazer AV-1 is the Chassis of choice for the rookie. MVT Flooring, Kwik Kurb, Kellers Auto Body, Total Concepts, Lexi's Cleaning & Detailing, and White's Catering all sponsor the #49 cart team. Zach's career highlight to date in his young career, is his first ever top five finish earlier this year, and his opportunity to be sitting in the top five in the point standings. His career lowlight thus far, was his first ever contact with the turn four guardrail at Penns Creek Raceway a few weeks back. Something had to give, and it wasn't the wall. But a few new parts later, and Zach was back in action the following week. Zach's inspiration to race competitively comes from close friend, and veteran Latemodel driver Eric Zembower. Zach's cart number reflects his loyal ship to Zembower, as they both race blue and red #49's. Zach would like to add a special thanks to his Dad for making his racing dream possibly come true. In years to come, Zach hopes that one day he can follow in Eric Zembower's footsteps, and drive a Super Latemodel at the big half mile.
